Meet the Clerk

Paula S. O'Neil

Pasco County has been my home for more than 20 years and I love it! It has been my privilege to raise my two sons in this community, and I have enjoyed many nights on the baseball and soccer fields of Pasco County. I was also very involved in their school activities, and worked with their school's Parent-Teacher Organization and the School Advisory Council.

Part of the reason I love Pasco County so much is because of the countless opportunities I have had to work with the citizens of Pasco County. When I moved here in 1987, I started working for the Pasco County Parks & Recreation Department. In the six years that I worked for Parks & Recreation, the park system grew from 22 to 34 parks and, because of the many grants and donations we received we were able to expand the $13 million bond referendum to $26 million.

In 1993, I transferred to the Community Services Department. Working with Public Transportation, Veteran Services, Elderly Nutrition, Social Services, Cooperative Extension, Soil Conservation, Animal Control and the Sexual Abuse Victim Examination (SAVE) Program, expanded my knowledge of the issues and concerns facing Pasco County's residents.

My commitment to excellence in government expanded to the Clerk's Office in 2002 when I began working for Jed Pittman, Clerk of the Circuit Court. While serving as Chief Deputy Clerk, I administered the day-to-day operations of the Clerk's Office. During that time, the Clerk received three national awards and was one of the first Clerk's offices in the state to provide and accept electronic filings of court cases. As Chief Financial Officer, Recorder of Deeds, and Clerk of the County and Circuit Courts, the Clerk's duties are very diverse and technical and require a vast knowledge of both the Court System and County Government.

My commitment to excellence extends to my belief in the value of education. I am a Ph.D. candidate in Applied Management and Decision Sciences at Walden University, earned a Masters Degree from National-Louis University, and a Bachelors Degree from Missouri State University. I am a Certified Public Manager (Florida State University), graduate of the Executive Fellows Program at the University of South Florida, graduate of Leadership Pasco (2002), and a 2007 Florida Sterling Examiner for the Governor's Sterling Council. My love for education also prompted me to serve as an adjunct instructor for Pasco-Hernando Community College for more than 10 years.

Giving back to my community has always been important to me. In previous years I spent many hours as a soccer mom, little league coach, school volunteer, PTO president, and Hospice volunteer. I currently have the pleasure of serving on the Board of Directors of the Florida West Coast Credit Union, Pasco Safety Town Board, and Habitat for Humanity. It is my honor to also be a member of the Advisory Board for Pasco-Hernando Community College, Seven Springs Rotary and the Calusa Business & Professional Women's organization. I belong to Beacon Community Church and enjoy working with middle and high school youth. During my spare time I love being with my family (including grand-dogs, Buddy and Max) as well as traveling, bicycling, golf, and attending sporting events.
