Dade City, FL - For years the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office has been producing a booklet called “Common Cent$,” but many citizens don’t realize this resource exists. Clerk Nikki Alvarez-Sowles, Esq. explains, it’s a matter of transparency, “Have you ever wondered where are my tax dollars going, and what are county leaders doing with those dollars?” asked Alvarez-Sowles. “The answer is right at your fingertips in the form of the Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR).”
Clerk’s Office Finance Director Matt Lazar explains, it is not a booklet filled with difficult to discern numbers, “Graphs, we love to use graphs,” said Lazar. “Not everyone wants to see numbers. Pictures make it a lot easier. It makes that connection and makes it easier to understand.”
The document breaks down where the county is spending your tax dollars. “You can make the connection,” said Lazar. “Public safety is the number one item. You don’t have to get into the details to get that information.”
Common Cent$ is also a valuable resource for individuals and companies looking to relocate to Pasco County. “You can see some of the largest taxpayers, so just to point out, Publix Supermarkets, you have the Tampa Premium Outlets on there,” said Lazar. “Where is all of that revenue coming from? They (the companies) are giving back to the community. Not just in the form of providing a service, but providing additional services so that the county can continue to develop the infrastructure and to develop the public safety needs of the county.
Alvarez-Sowles is pleased with the feedback the Office has received as a result of this report. “The PAFR (Common Cent$) is one of several reports my Office prepares on a yearly basis,” said Alvarez-Sowles. “We are proud of the fact that we have been awarded year after year for excellence in financial reporting.
