NEW PORT RICHEY, FL ---- According to a December report from WalletHub, Florida ranks fifth in the top ten most vulnerable states for identity theft and fraud for 2025. The study examined identity theft and fraud complaints per capita as well as state policies that can mitigate the damage posed by such crimes. So, what can you do to prevent yourself from becoming a victim?  One way is to limit the sensitive documents you toss in the trash.

In celebration of Data Privacy Day (January 28th), Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller Nikki Alvarez-Sowles, Esq., is excited to announce the return of the Office’s annual free shredding event. The Big Shred VIII will be held on each side of Pasco County on consecutive Saturdays.

  • 10 a.m. to noon on January 25th at the West Pasco Judicial Center, 7530 Little Road, New Port Richey
  • 10 a.m. to noon on February 1st at the Robert Sumner Judicial Center, 38053 Live Oak Avenue, Dade City

You can bring up to three copier-paper boxes or two tall kitchen trash bags filled with documents.  You don’t need to remove staples, clasps or paperclips, but we do ask that you take paper out of 3-ring binders. Electronics will not be accepted.

Last year, more than 460 Pasco residents brought roughly 10.25 tons of documents to The Big Shred.  The Office of Clerk & Comptroller partners with Covanta, Shred 360 and Keep Pasco Beautiful to provide this event.
