[ARCHIVED] PASCO 5TH GRADERS INVITED TO ENTER CONSTITUTION ESSAY CONTEST

Constitution Essay Contest Kickoff 2025

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL -- For over a decade, Pasco County fifth-grade students have proudly participated in an annual essay contest in celebration of Constitution Day, September 17th. This year's prompt continues the tradition by asking students to reflect on an important question:
“Why is the Constitution important?”

The contest commemorates a pivotal moment in American history. On September 17, 1787, 39 courageous patriots signed the United States Constitution in Philadelphia’s Independence Hall, introducing the powerful phrase that still echoes through our democracy:
“We the People.”

The U.S. Constitution has remained in effect for more than two centuries. Its endurance is a testament to the framers' vision—crafting a government that balances power, protects the rights of both majority and minority populations, and ensures liberty and equality through a federal system.

The Honorable Nikki Alvarez-Sowles, Esq., Pasco County Clerk and Comptroller, proudly invites all fifth-grade students in Pasco County to take part in this year's Constitution Essay Contest.

Contest Details:

  • Eligibility: All fifth-grade students in Pasco County
  • Essay Prompt: “Why is the Constitution important?”
  • Deadline: September 26th
  • Prizes: First, second, and third place winners will receive a certificate and a gift card, and will be recognized at a Pasco County School Board meeting. All participants receive an honorable mention certificate.

Students are encouraged to put their thoughts into words—whether by pen or keyboard—and join in honoring the foundation of our democracy.
