[ARCHIVED] GEARING UP FOR THE BIG SHRED 2026

THE BIG SHRED 9 - IG SOCIAL - 2026

NEW PORT RICHEY, FL ---- According to a recent WalletHub report, Florida ranks as the most vulnerable state in the nation for identity theft and fraud. The study examined identity theft and fraud complaints per capita, along with state policies designed to limit the damage caused by these crimes.

So, what can residents do to protect themselves? One of the simplest—and most effective—steps is making sure sensitive documents never end up in the trash.

In recognition of Data Privacy Day (January 28), Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller Nikki Alvarez-Sowles, Esq., is pleased to announce the return of the Office’s popular free shredding event, The Big Shred IX. This year’s event will once again be held on both sides of Pasco County on consecutive Saturdays, making it easy for residents to safely dispose of personal documents.

  • 10 a.m. to noon on January 31st at the West Pasco Judicial Center, 7530 Little Road, New Port Richey
  • 10 a.m. to noon on February 7th at the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center, 38053 Live Oak Avenue, Dade City

Participants may bring up to three copier-paper boxes or two tall kitchen trash bags filled with documents for secure on-site shredding. Staples, clasps, and paperclips are accepted; however, documents must be removed from three-ring binders. Electronics will not be accepted.

Last year, we shredded 12.5 tons of documents for nearly 500 Pasco residents, keeping personal information out of landfills—and out of criminals’ hands. The event is made possible through partnerships with Reworld, Shred 360, and Keep Pasco Beautiful.
